fancy decor

We are in the middle of a big kitchen facelift which has left me with little free time and too many trips to Home Depot, Lowe’s and Menards. But I’m happy to say that other than a quick trip tonight to pick up baseboards and quarter round, we are done with those stores and I am on to the fun stuff.

Our kitchen colors are Martha Stewart grey squirrel (walls), white (cabinets), blackish granite countertops and a lovely backsplash which I’ll reveal in a future post showing the before and after photos of our kitchen.

With these colors, we decided to add in a lovely sunshine yellow as an accent color.

I love the way grey and yellow look together and our VERY modern kitchen needs a little something more.

This inspiration board by Ariel Yve Design shows the way the colors play together. Modern, yet warm.

I am in LOVE with the print below in goldenrod (yellow) from Blu Lima on Etsy.  I plan to frame it in a white frame with a white or grey matte.

And on my kitchen art search, I came across Made by Girl, a fabulous design blog and print shop. I LOVE so many of her items so wanted to share.

I am still in desparate need of one more piece of art for our kitchen. Anybody know of any amazing prints or artists with a similar style to the “Let them eat cake” print?

Please share. E-mail me at livethefancylife@gmail.com or leave a comment below. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks! Live the fancy life!

Looks fabulous! I love yellow in kitchens!

  2. Ooh, I can’t wait to see the before & after!
Prints similar to that one (which is adorable, btw) – -Studio Mela (which I blogged about here: http://beautydesignlife.blogspot.com/2010/02/happy-little-nest.html)
-The Lobster Pot (http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheLobsterPot) which I think does custom prints so you could get one in yellow to match your kitchen!

I’m sure you have found this site in your quest, but http://www.thekitchn.com has TONS of cute inspiration! I know I have seen other prints like the one you found, but I can’t remember where… If I remember, I will let you know. By the way, I LOVE grey and yellow! Someday (not anytime soon…) I will have a grey and yellow nursery in my house. Can’t wait to see your before/after pics!

  4. Can’t wait to see the before and after pics from your kitchen!

Here are a couple of my favorite Etsy print sellers:

    dazeychic.etsy.com

    louellapress.etsy.com
(I think some letterpress would look fantastic in your new kitchen)

Oh and this isn’t a seller, just a cute item:

Last but not least, one of my favorite inexpensive decorating tricks is to frame pretty paper. http://www.broadwaypaper.com is a great online resource and a great store if you’re ever in Milwaukee.

  5. Oops just noticed that Erin also recommended Studio Mela. Sorry! Didn’t catch that before I submitted my comment.

  6. Love the color combo!! Can’t wait to see the final pics.

  7. Love the yellow/gray combo and the letterpress Cucina. So cute! Congrats on making it through a kitchen remodel.

i love gray and yellow – those were our wedding colors over a year ago, and i’m still head over heels for that color combo! the boys wore gray tuxes which were so much softer than stark black, and i could go on and on but i really wanted to recommend these stools in case you haven’t bought new ones yet. http://www.boconcept.us/Default.aspx?ID=84163&ImageID=1159&flashimageid=0 the pic online doesn’t do these justice. even w/ no arms they’re very comfortable. my friend just bought two for her kitchen breakfast bar and she loves them!

  9. Thanks Tish! Great stools. We haven’t purchased stools yet, so really appreciate the tip. 🙂
