the Baby Bjorn and celebrating the lasts

I recently read a blog post about a parent’s first lasts with their children and wanted to share my own forced first last. With kids, time goes so quickly and babies, in particular, change every day. So, you don’t always know when you experienced something for the last time. Such was the case for us not so long ago. Continue reading

baby-proof cake stand for Bodhi’s 1st birthday

{photo credit --- A Fabulouse Fete on etsy}

After searching high and low for the perfect option, I finally settled on this wooden cake stand for Bodhi’s first birthday party. He will enjoy his first sugar experience right off of this beauty.

I think this is such a great option for little ones. It’ made of wood so it will not break like all of the adorable glass cake stands out there! And I know it will get a lot of use in the future too. We plan to have Bodhi eat his “smash cake” on the floor with everyone else sitting on the floor around him instead of confined to his high chair. This mama knows she is in for a mess, but I think it’ll be worth the experience. Check out A Fabulous Fete on Etsy for other cake stand options.

moving update and kid party favors

{photo credit --- my little otter on etsy}

We’re in! And we have a yellow door. I’ll share that with you soon. After a week off from work and everything else really, we are officially moved into our new home but not completely settled. We have way too much unpacking to do and a lot of decorating needed. We’ll take it slow since we also have a little someone’s birthday bash to focus on. Continue reading

{This little guy is on the move and he's practicing his throwing skills

I recently found a few things that I wish I knew about months ago. I thought I would share these lifesavers with you over the next few weeks! Today’s featured item is something we plan to order again soon.

This product, the Booginhead Sippigrip, is so simple and yet so effective! It’s a strap to hold your child’s sippy cup to a surface. {sale alert} — chevron onesies and nursery essentials

{photo credit --- live the fancy life}

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! This year, I’m a little too obsessed with this little sweetie! He is the main person getting tons of kisses and hugs and gifts this year. My sweet husband and I celebrated Saturday night with a nice dinner and a couple glasses of bubbly. It was lovely and we are excited to spend today with our other love!

It’s also one of the many times each year when sales are everywhere. While I haven’t shopped for myself in a while (we’re saving for our upcoming move), I have picked up bargains for Bodhi on a weekly basis lately. The latest sale to capture my attention is Old Navy’s baby sale—going on now. We didn’t get the best deals in store, but we did grab these adorable chevron and stripe onesies for $12. They are so versatile—wear them alone with jeans, under a T-shirt or sweater or as an undershirt beneath a hoodie. Our favorite playtime outfit is:

monday {momday} — four surprisingly easy ways to refresh

{photo credit---hipstamatic on my iPhone}

Let’s be honest! Weekends are not made for relaxing if you are a new mom or dad. They are also not made for going out, enjoying long slow dinners with a glass of wine or anything close and most of the time, I’m more than ok with that. But somehow we all need to find a way to refresh before another busy week. Here are five pretty basic ways my husband and I have found for refreshing before another long work week. Continue reading

happy new year

Happy new year lovelies! We have been a busy little family these past few weeks. With planning a small party, cleaning up from said party, shopping, wrapping, packing, traveling, celebrating, finalizing new house stuff and dealing with a sick little man, time is flying. Bodhi had his first ear infection over Christmas. Between the travel to my hometown, several extra rough nights of no sleep (for all three of us) and the regular holiday hoopla, we are exhausted and thankful to have survived the holidays and to be in a nice warm Minnesota in January. No, really! It’s been an unseasonably warm and snow-less winter so far.

Sleeping Bodhi (after a nap-less afternoon)---Not relevant to the post, but so sweet. He didn't wake up when we took him out of the car seat.

My resolution for 2012 besides be a good mama and wife, live in the moment and blog more often than once every three weeks is simple. I just want to give myself permission to relax once in a while. This, my friends, is the reason I have been absent for weeks. I’ve been taking time to enjoy long naps with Bodhi, cook dinner with my husband and relax a bit. Although I tend to be someone who sets many goals (and often accomplishes them), I am taking it easy in 2012. We’ve had a lot of change (new baby, new job, new home) this past year and I’m still adjusting to our new normal.

With that said, I’m excited to share my plans for Bodhi’s first birthday, how I’ll celebrate the big 3-0 in March and the progress on our new home as it happens.

What’s new with you? What new year’s resolutions or goals do you have for 2012? Mamas—are you also giving yourself a break or are you hoping to pick it up a bit this year?
