planning our nursery

In planning our nursery for our baby boy who is expected to arrive in April, we are all about modern and clean balanced with making the room peaceful, relaxing and calm.

With grey walls, white trim and some fun aqua blue and bright green accents, we feel like we are getting there. I wanted to share some of the items that will grace the room our little boy will live in for the next couple of years. This is half inspiration, half our reality. Most of these items are the actual items we will have in the room including the colors. What do you think?

We are still looking for some more art, a large letter like the one on the shelf above and a great toybox that can also be seating for our little guy in the future. I plan to make a mobile with poms, lanterns and other hanging objects like the one above in aqua, green and grey. A question for all of you moms out there-where would baby appreciate it more? Above the glider or changing table?

We plan to include Ikea’s Expedit bookcase in white for extra storage and a spot for a fun lamp. What do you think of Ikea’s Lykta lamp? At $12.99, I’m not sure I can find a better choice and it comes in blue and green.

For a light fixture, I am in love with Oilo Studio’s pendant light below. It is the dream light, but is over our budget at this point, so we will continue to hunt for the right light fixture! Any tips?

A huge thanks goes out to Esther at She took some time to help us find the perfect bedding in this post on her blog. After her post, it was clear to us that Etsy custom bedding from Nursery Dreams was the way to go for our price range and our need for super modern and clean lines. And throughout all of our pregnancy, has been my go-to blog! Absolutely love her nursery inspiration boards!

Thanks to our custom artist Lisa Barbero for creating beautiful art for our child’s room that has some history and meaning for us. We’ll show you the final results in a before and after post in March.

Any other moms or moms-to-be out there-please share your tips and must have items! Time is flying and I would love your thoughts. Live the fancy life!

Love it! We got the babyletto modo in espresso. Super easy to put together and we love it! Have you bought it yet? We got a great deal on Amazon, with no sales tax in MN, plus free shipping.

I originally found poms I wanted on Etsy but decided to make it a DIY project, thanks to Martha Stewart..

LOVE the lamp (it’s now going on my inspiration list) and the bookends from CB2 (we totally must frequent the same web sites… I just ran across those a few days ago).

Check out my (new!) blog for my nursery inspiration post!

Can’t wait to see the final design!

  3. How exciting! I looooved dreaming, planning & shopping for our baby’s nursery! Of course, Pete put it all together. I loved picking out the colors and having him paint, picking out the furniture and having him put it together, ect. It was a way we could nest but in our own ways!

I loooove mint & blue together. We didn’t know if David was a girl or a boy so we tried to keep it neutral with that minty green and tan.

Have fun & don’t forget to thrift with an open mind to painting, refinishing, new knobs, take it apart, or hang it up!

Super cute, I can’t wait to see how it is all put together.

  5. i would put the mobile above the changing table for sure! they get really squirmy at an early age and you have to distract the, im order to have two seconds to whip a new diaper on! your nursery inspiration is adorable. you have great taste – i am sure it will be beautiful!
