a bedroom fit for newlyweds…well, sort of

When I first moved into my husband’s bachelor pad house in Northeast Minneapolis, the house was empty. Other than the man cave of course. When you entered the home you literally could not find any furniture other than an old bed with an Ikea side table in the bedroom and a huge oversized sofa and chair in the basement with a 50 inch television. That was it.

No art. No window coverings. No rugs. No stools. No chairs. Nothing. This was the perfect blank canvas for me!

Since our wedding in October of 2009, we have remodeled the kitchen, added furniture throughout the house and remodeled the breezeway. For those of you who have never heard of a breezeway, it is a porchlike room that is fully heated and air conditioned connected to the living room. I’ll post about that another day.

Today, I am excited to share a few shots of our newly finished or close to finished bedroom. Unfortunately, I don’t have “before” shots and these photos were all taken at night so are a bit dark. For the “before” shots, just picture a yellowish wood bed and nothing else in a white room. We are still looking for pretty new lamps and a rug. I’m also considering adding a simple crystal chandelier to replace the current Ikea light fixture and painting the room a warm grey color in the future. Enjoy!

All of the bedding is from West Elm. The throw pillow is part of the Dwell Studios for Target line. I know it’s a lot of color, but it’s actually not too bright when you are in the room. We plan to snuggle in a soft grey duvet cover and put the poppy bedspread on the end of the bed during the long cold Minnesota winters!

I am in love with these “coffee” mugs from Crate and Barrel. My colleague Rachel bought them for our first wedding shower last summer. They are my favorite thing to drink out of on Saturday mornings in our kitchen.

And last but not least, our cat Clyde! Bonnie (our other cat) was a little camera shy.

The goods!

{Throw pillow—Dwell Studios at Target}
{French Quarters bed—Hom Furniture}
{Ceiling light fixture—Ikea}
{Wedding photography and frames—Photogen Inc photos in Crate and Barrel frames}

{White curtains—Pottery Barn}
{Coffee mugs—Crate and Barrel}
{White breakfast in bed tray—my mom!}
{Cute kitty—inherited from my husband}
